The assessment addresses how artists portray self-portraits, materials and techniques and messages behind their work.

Coursework 1. 2D Painting and drawing working from past GCSE questions.

Marked at present GCSE exam board criteria.
Final assessment with written feedback given to both pupils and parent/guardian.
Specific tasks identified to improve work with a manageable deadlines set.
Final coursework grade awarded for project 1 given in March. Scored out of 80.

Assessment 2Colour Theory and Painting techniques.
End of term unit assessment.
Test in class, one hour.
The test comprises of theory exercises as well as art history and colour association.
Marked out of 25 National curriculum levels.
Mandalas- pattern & decoration.
End of term unit assessment.
Test in class, one hour.
The test comprises of both drawing and written exercises comprising of spiritual and symbolism in art, tonal colour and pattern and construction.
Marked out of 25 National curriculum levels.
3D Sculptural letters.
End of term unit assessment.
Test in class, one hour.
The test comprises of investigating word in art, making techniques, construction and decorating/use of found objects.
Marked out of 25 National curriculum levels.
External exam.
10 hours held within the classroom over 2 days.
Exam takes place in April.
Final work is marked and both coursework and exam grades are submitted to the exam AQA board. Preparation for the exam covering AO1, AO2, and AO3 takes place from January to May. The work is assessed at the end of every week. Written and verbal feedback is given. Work is marked out of 20 per assessment objective.

Painting styles and techniques (focussing on a named artist/art movement)

The test comprises of both drawing and written exercises on historic and contemporary art, symbolism/narrative/techniques of painting.
Marked out of 25 National curriculum levels.

Final PUPIL VOICE ASSESSMENT. 30 minute online survey on pupil’s opinions on the sow. The findings are then collated into a colourful pie chart.
Printing, painting and drawing- Text in Art.
End of term unit assessment.
Test in class, one hour.
The test comprises of testing knowledge of lettering styles and traditions looking at Historic and Contemporary text. Watercolour painting and drawing techniques will be tested.
Marked out of 25 National curriculum levels.
